Every day from Monday to Friday, Mauricio parks his pick-up truck next to our daughter's school and sells delicious, fresh fruit. For around $10 we can get: 2 pounds of mango, 2 pineapples, 2 papayas, a bundle of bananas, a small watermelon, cantaloupe, some oranges, some avocados and he always throws in a new 'exotic' fruit to try like 'manzana de agua' which is a cousin of the apple but pear shaped and has a 'lighter' taste. We frequent his 'shop' twice a week.
I don't think I've ever eaten so much fruit in my life! Not only do we eat fresh fruit everyday, we also make fresh 'batidos' (fruit shakes) to drink. Yes, I'll be able to buy fruit at the supermarket when I'm back in Switzerland, but there's something to be said about buying it from a local fruit vendor (in New York it's usually mix tapes or illegal merchandise sold out car trunks, lol).
Because we eat fruits and vegetables so abundantly, Our daughter prefers fruit over funnel cake. She eats avocado religiously. She knows where mangos come from because she sees them falling off of trees. It might be harder to continue her healthy eating habits as she gets older, but at least she has this foundation.
left pic: she found a small green mango, right pic: enjoying a 'batido de piña' (pineapple fruitshake).
And you? How often do you eat fruit on a weekly basis? Is it part of your 3-5 meals per day?
